Affordable Dental Crowns

Crowns are there to protect your teeth from fracture and to make them beautiful. Their shape, size and color are adapted to your other teeth and together with them make your smile beautiful. Crowns can be made of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or they can be full gold crowns. Porcelain crowns fit best in your natural teeth.

The reasons for having crowns are:

  • Functional – the tooth substance is consumed over the years and the tooth needs to be protected. Also, in the case of major cavity lesions or tooth breaks, the crown will protect the tooth and allow it to last for many years.

  • Aesthetic – if you are not satisfied with your teeth appearance, their position, color, size or some previous restoration, crowns can solve all of these problems.

How are crowns made?

After a detailed review and analysis of your smile and bite, we will propose what type of crown is best for you. It is possible to make the crown in 2-3 visits at the clinic. Each of these visits is painless for you, with the application of local anesthetics in the area of the tooth on which the crown is made.

At the first arrival at the dental office, the tooth will be reshaped. It is necessary for the size of the tooth to decrease so the crown could fit. After the drilling, we will have your impressions taken and then we can send them to a dental lab. Until the next arrival for the fitting, you will get a temporary crown on your tooth that will allow you to chew, talk and laugh normally. It will also protect your teeth from a painful stimulus such as ice-cold water or hot tea.

When the impression is sent to the laboratory, it takes about 2-3 weeks for the crown to be made and returned to the clinic. However, the Advanced Smile Dental Clinic has its own in-house high-quality dental laboratory, our turn-around time delivery for a crown is approximately one week! So, after a week, you will come to your second appointment. If the crown is suitable, we can then place a crown on the tooth using a cement. This part of the procedure is also done with local anesthetic.

A crown can stay in your mouth between 10 and 15 years. During that whole time, you can enjoy your smile, because the crowns, unlike composite fillings, do not change their color over time. You will maintain your oral hygiene in the same way as usual and you will care about that tooth as much as for any other tooth. Also, for the crown to last for a long time, you need to come for a check-up, cleaning, and polishing your teeth twice a year.

Post-Operative Instructions

  • In the first 24 hours after cementing the new crown be careful on how you chew your food. If you feel any discomfort while eating, contact us immediately in order to resolve this. Also, try to avoid very hard or sticky foods for the first 24h.
  • In the first few days, you can experience some tooth sensitivity. Also, the sensitivity of the gums along the crown is possible. This is a normal effect and you do not have to worry about it.
  • As well as after any procedure in the dental office for which you received local anesthesia, after cementing the crown, do not eat and do not bite your lip until the effect of anesthesia is gone.
  • The temporary crown that you get to carry between your two visits to the clinic is made of plastic and is not as durable as a real crown. Therefore, we call it temporary. In order to avoid your temporary crown clinging or breaking off, avoid very hard food and sticky food. Try to chew on the opposite side. Keep your teeth clean.
  • After cementing the crown, maintain a normal oral hygiene with a brush and a toothpaste. Also, be sure to use dental floss and interdental brushes.
